Are you ready to mountain bike through Lord of the Rings territory? Discover one of nature’s great wonderlands on this awesome tour.
Are you ready for an epic mountain bike adventure through some of the most renowned wilderness areas in New Zealand? Well, start packing your suitcases – and your I/O Merino thermal base layers!
Avid adventurers Shane Hutton and Richelle Olsen started The Ultra Life to share their epic journeys with other adventurers and this upcoming trip to New Zealand from 14 – 19 May will showcase some of their absolute favorite trails. And with plenty to choose from, there’s one to suit everybody’s riding abilities. So, there’s no need to miss out on the fun if you’re not a pro mountain biker.
The mean temperature in May is a cool 10c/51f, so a few I/O Merino thermal base layers are going to come in real handy along the way. For some serious MTB action, we’d suggest layering an Altitude T and Long Sleeve, and maybe a Highpoint Necktube, and you’ll be ready for just about anything out on the trails.
Flights (from Melbourne, Australia), accommodation, transport and meals are organized, so all you have to do is show up with your I/O Merino and be ready to pedal your way through a five day adventure on some of NZ’s best trails. If you’re not from or in Melbourne, just let the team know and hopefully they can come up with a plan for you wherever you are in the world. But you’ll need to be quick as there’s only room for eight riders.
You can take your own bike, or if it’s easier, they can get you a good deal on a hire bike. We have to confess, a few of us here at I/O HQ have been eyeing off this tour ourselves and can’t wait to get over there and ride the trails, have some awesome mountain biking fun, and get the chance to view the beautiful scenery New Zealand has to offer.
This tour is self guided, so you’ll be able to do everything at your own pace too. Richelle and Shane will simply be pointing you in the right direction, offering you some advice and guidance, and then you can tackle the trails in your own time. Go fast, go slow, it’s up to you. But whatever you do, go!
