These days we see more and more people enjoying the great outdoors in all sorts of ways. And there’s certainly no shortage of events helping you discover new places and trails. One of our favorites is the Surf Coast Trail Marathon which is coming up in June, so if you haven’t entered yet, be sure to get in quick as entries are filling up fast! The Surf Coast is located in Torquay, just over an hour out of Melbourne, and is one seriously awesome trail running event. Not only does it take in beautiful coastal views, the volunteers and race directors/organizers are super friendly, giving it an all-round great atmosphere, so we’re excited to be involved as an official sponsor.
Unlike many trail races, there’s no crazy elevation at the Surf Coast Trail Marathon so it’s super enjoyable. For some! 😉 While there’s some running on softer beach sand, which can take its toll, even road runners will find the majority of trails along the course quite run-able with a minimum of technical stuff along the way. ioCrew Member and Trail Lover Sputnik actually ran it with an injury a few years back – which we definitely don’t recommend mind you, but he did at least finish the race! Thankfully he returned last year for the second running of the event, and put in a much more respectable finish, and is looking forward to doing it all again this year so if you see him out there, be sure to say ‘hi’.
Held on June 25, which is winter here in Australia, you can expect it’s going to be chilly, especially in the morning and after the race when you’re cooling down again. So you’ll want to be prepared with some superfine, easy to throw in your pack, Merino Wool layers that are breathable, temperature regulating and odour-resistant so you don’t overheat during the race.
