Find out about this Australian adventurer’s ambitious plan to bag 21 peaks in one hit!
Kyle Williams is no stranger to setting, and achieving, goals most other people would label ‘crazy’. While some people set out to bag a single peak, Kyle’s set himself the goal of climbing the 21 highest mountain peaks over 2,000 metres in the Main Range – Australia’s highest mountain range.
This latest adventure is made all the more impressive by the fact that less than a year ago he couldn’t run more than 20 minutes without having to stop. Thanks to a grueling training schedule he’s slowly but surely built up his strength and endurance and in just a few short weeks he’ll find out if all that hard work has paid off.
Talking about his impending adventure, Kyle said “I’ve said before that big events or adventures are really all about the entire experience and not just the end result. Like life, the journey to any goal is always full of ups, downs and struggles. It is on the journey to the goal that you learn most about yourself, not just what it means to you when you cross the finish line. Anyone can turn up to the starting line for a race, but there are very few willing and disciplined enough to do everything that’s needed to ensure they are 100% ready to compete.”
Just on a year ago in November 2013, Kyle set a world first by becoming the first person to climb all of Austraila’s highest mainland mountains non-stop. This time he’ll be joined by friend and ultra marathoner Jamie Smith but it will be Kyle’s first ever ultra. “This will be my first ever ultra and what a way to do it! It will be a tough, uncompromising challenge with no crowds or trophies, just two friends pitting themselves against the will of Australia’s toughest mountains to challenge their limits and create and an ultra running first”.
At least on this latest adventure, he’ll have a full kit of I/O Merino to keep him comfortable and warm along the way. You can follow Kyle’s adventures here.
